With a straight flashing kit, the pipe leans as soon as the canvas slopes. This kit has an angle of 45 degrees. Thanks to this, the pipe stays upright, while the edge lies flat on the sloping canvas.

How the CanvasCamp Exit 45° flashing kit works

The kit has a stainless steel frame with a supple rubber membrane inside. The rubber handles heat well. In the middle, you cut a hole to fit your pipe. Cut it a little smaller than the pipe, because the rubber stretches and then seals tightly. So the kit stays waterproof, even in rain.

Using the parts in the box, you fix the frame to both sides of the canvas. As a result, the frame does not pull on one point, but spreads the force over the canvas. The rubber keeps the pipe in the centre, so there is always space between the hot pipe and the canvas. Fitting takes about ten minutes, and the box holds everything you need.

Why an angle of 45 degrees

The roof of a bell tent or tipi slopes down from the centre pole. A straight flashing kit lets the pipe tilt with it. Then the stove draws less well and the pipe comes closer to the canvas. With the 45 degree angle, the pipe stands upright, while the kit itself follows the slope. So you get a better draw, less smoke and more safety. The kit fits pipes from 4.5 to 14 cm thick, and therefore almost any tent stove.

Rain plate and safe fires

A rain plate comes with the kit. It covers the hole when the stove is not burning. This way, the tent stays dry outside the stove season. A tip: press an upside-down plastic cup into the rubber for a quick, waterproof seal in between. Also, always use a double-walled pipe where the pipe leaves the tent. The outside then stays much cooler, so the risk of scorching is much smaller.
