Binoculars

Binoculars bring the world closer. A bird in the distance, a deer at the edge of the woods or a buoy on the water: with a good pair, you see it sharp and clear. It is great for birdwatching, when hunting and on the water.

Why good binoculars make the difference

It all comes down to the lenses. A good coating lets in more light and gives more contrast. As a result, you see true colours and fine details, even at dusk. The prisms inside give a straight and clear image. Moreover, the housing is sturdy, so the pair can take rain and a knock.

Ease of use counts too. A pair has to sit well in your hands. With a smooth wheel, you focus fast, so you do not miss that one moment. There are also compact models that slip easily into your coat pocket.

What should you look for?

First, look at the numbers in the name, for example 8 x 42. The first number is the magnification, the second the size of the lens in mm. A bigger lens catches more light, but weighs more. For walking, 8 x 25 or 8 x 32 works well. For dusk or on the water, choose 7 x 50 or 8 x 56. Also think about the brand. Kowa and Konus have a name for good optics.

What you find in this collection
