Percolators make coffee the old-fashioned way: on the fire. You fill the pot with water and ground coffee. Then you put it on the burner or campfire and wait until it bubbles. That way you get a full, strong cup of coffee outdoors. At home it works the same, for example on the gas hob. In this collection you will therefore find pots from Winnerwell and Easy Camp.
Percolators: how they work
The water in the pot heats up and rises through a small tube. After that, it falls back through the ground coffee. This happens a few times, so the coffee keeps getting stronger. As a result, the aroma is rich and full. Besides, you need no filter or power. Just the pot, water, coffee and a fire.
What to look for
First, look at the capacity. For two people a small pot is enough, but with a group you want a large one. Next, check the material. Stainless steel can handle an open fire and is easy to clean. Also choose a pot with a sturdy handle, because the pot gets hot. Take the pot off the fire as soon as the coffee is strong enough, otherwise it turns bitter. Rinse the pot well after use, so the taste stays pure. Moreover, a percolator is compact, so it fits easily in your kit.
