The CanvasCamp Exit flashing kit is the safe way to guide the stove pipe out through your tent canvas. Without such a kit, you cannot use a wood stove in a canvas tent, because a hot pipe against the fabric is a direct fire risk. This kit keeps the pipe away from the canvas. Moreover, it seals the hole so no water gets in.

How the CanvasCamp Exit flashing kit works

The kit is a stainless steel ring with a supple silicone membrane inside. In the middle, you cut a hole to fit your pipe. Always cut it a little smaller than the pipe, because the material stretches and then seals tightly. Using the parts in the box, you fix the ring to both sides of the canvas. This way, you spread the force evenly over the canvas.

The silicone handles heat well. It also keeps the pipe in the centre, so there is always space between pipe and canvas. Fitting takes about ten minutes. Everything you need comes in the box.

Through the roof or through the side wall

You choose where the kit goes. Through the roof gives the most heat, because the whole pipe then hangs inside. Through the side wall gives more freedom when you place the stove. Besides, you can then take the pipe out more easily. That is handier than a tent with a fixed flue hole, since such a tent fixes both the spot and the largest pipe size.

Rain plate and sizes

Each kit comes with a rain plate. It covers the hole when the stove is not burning, so no rain gets in. A tip from practice: press an upside-down plastic cup into the hole for a quick, waterproof seal in between.

The Mini fits pipes up to 7 cm thick and suits small stoves and backpack models. The Large suits the common tent stoves with a pipe of 7.6 cm or 8.9 cm, such as most Winnerwell stoves. Also, always use a double-walled pipe where the pipe passes through the canvas. The outside then stays much cooler, so the risk of scorching or fire is much smaller.
